The Dream Academy

The Dream Academy recorded three albums and have released a compilation in Japan. Their style is that of somewhere between folk rock and alternative, and have been mentioned in both contexts. Life in a Northern Town was their biggest hit, although Indian Summer also got considerable airtime. A Different Kind of Weather had no chart reaching songs.

According to an unofficial SNL guide The Dream Academy performed Life In a Northern Town in the sixth episode of the 1985 season, which would have been around Christmas time. Teri Garr was the host and The Cult was the other musical guest.

Sadly, their albums are out of print in the U.S. However, they are available as import titles. I moved the links from CDNow to Amazon because they seem to have more of the albums.

In 1998, Dario G. used the "Ah hey ma ma ma" chorus from Life in a Northern Town in their song Sunchyme on the album Sunmachine. The Sunmachine album, the Sunchyme single along with several other Dario G albums and singles. are available at Amazon. Both the album and the single have RealAudio clips.

More recently, a Japanese best-of compilation called Somewhere in the Sun (Best Of) includes four previously unreleased tracks:

On 1998-Oct-12, we passed the 1,000 hit mark. Not too impressive on the whole, but an average of about 22 hits a week isn't too bad.
