Pre-weekend weekend lunch invite 24. Tomorrow is the last day of the first half of the last year to the year 2000

Thanks to all of you who stopped by last week to make a great party. The rest of you are now "tainted" or "bad" and must have hearts of stone. Or you were travelling/had other plans, whichever. :-)

(I'll put this early because people tend to not read much. Know thy audience.) O'Bagelo's is closed on Saturday (Sunday and Monday too), so for all you "lucky" Xeroids and others who can make it, this week's lunch will be on Friday instead.

Why? Well you might have noticed the sounds of small celebratory explosives and the smell of charbroiled, disembodied child fingers which can only mean one thing--more of the same building to sulfuric crescendo on Sunday night when the big kids come out to play.

Other than fire (Fire good.) and more fire (Fire BAD!), there's three movies opening this weekend, all of which look pretty good. First (and last on my list) is Wild Wild West which looks to be nothing like the original series despite the name and characters, but nonetheless fun to watch. Next is South Park which I believe I'm the only one in the whole world who didn't see it opening night. Finally is "Summer of Sam" which is a nostalgic romp back to the days of a '70's serial killer. The Dryden is showing but one movie this weekend: "The French Connection" tonight at 8:00.

The part that isn't very new follows:

For the last few months I've been having lunch at O'Bagelo's on State Street on Saturday at 11:30. The same people who have been going have been coming back, so I guess I'm not on crack about the food being good.

I'll be there at 11:30. For the few of you who haven't been there, it's on State Street between the Federal Building and Frontier Field. It's south of 490 and north of Andrews on the west side of the street (i.e., across from West Group on the east side.) Their sign is flush against the building so it's a little hard to see unless you're looking. They've got a variety of sandwiches on bagels, fresh bread or fresh rolls, and some soups. There are some veggie stuff too, but sometimes they don't make the fried eggplant very early.

Anyhow, RSVP, call, e-mail, or just show up.
